Naked jogger wearing nothing but socks, shoes and a bum bag shocks walkers at popular beauty spot

Walkers enjoying an evening stroll in the spring sunshine at a popular beauty spot were stunned by the sight of a naked jogger.

Running through the trees as if his nudity was totally normal, the man was wearing only socks and trainers - plus a bum bag which did nothing to spare the blushes of passers-by.

One witness was so shocked at seeing the jogger – accompanied by a fully-clothed female partner - in Alderley Edge, Cheshire yesterday 'with all his bits swinging around' that they uploaded a video clip onto social media.

The anonymous poster was at the National Trust-owned woodlands at about 6.30pm when they spotted the 'completely naked man jogging along'.

'To say disgusting would be an understatement,' the witness posted on the 'Real' Alderley Edge Facebook page.

'Why you would inflict that on anyone is beyond me.

'I am not sure whether or not to report this because of the early time when kids could have been up there and that it's unacceptable and intimidating.'

It is the latest in a series of sightings of a male jogger naked but for a bum bag at beauty spots in a ten-mile radius of Macclesfield since the start of the pandemic.

Among locations where he has been spotted appropriately include the village of Flash, the highest in the UK.

Locals have speculated that he began his exhibitionist habit while the countryside was deserted at the height of the first lockdown – but kept it up despite the return of visitors.

However it is thought to be the first time he has been caught on video.

Cheshire Police have previously appealed for information about reports of a man running around rural areas 'with his crown jewels on show' or obscured by a 'teeny tiny bum-bag'.

At the time, officers light-heartedly added 'for clarity' that their appeal for a description of the 'naked man running in the hills on the borders of Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire' related to his face, rather than any other body parts.

A similar-looking man was previously photographed jogging naked in August 2020 near The Roaches, a dramatic rocky ridge above Leek in Staffordshire.

Anna Phillips, who was photographing paragliders when she spotted him, told the Stoke Sentinel: 'I made eye contact with him as I didn't know where to look and didn't want to be awkward by looking away.

'We wished each other a 'good evening' because that's the British thing to do I guess and he carried on running.

'I was just thinking 'I hope he doesn't trip and get a graze in a nasty place from all those rocks'.'

She clarified that he was 'definitely fully naked', apart from his bag.

Another anonymous witness who also took a picture told how he 'thought I was dreaming'.

'He was wearing a bum bag but nothing else.

'He ran past two men. He then hid behind a wall when he saw a Asda delivery van come down a farm drive.'

The 46-year-old told the Derby Telegraph: 'It's wrong because a child might see him. He seemed to be pretty proud of it.

'It's got so busy since lockdown with more people getting out walking so anybody could see him.'

At the time, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust – which manages the site – said: 'Behaviour of this type is disorderly and anyone who sees it happening should contact the police.'

Yesterday's sighting prompted a discussion about whether the jogger was actually going anything wrong.

One member of the Facebook group wrote that people who saw him 'could have been distressed in seeing this', adding: 'I would be, it's not right and disturbing.'

But a woman member responded that 'there's a massive difference between nudism and flashing'.

She added: 'It's probably a more serious matter that someone took naked pictures of someone apparently without consent and uploaded them to social media.'

A dramatic wooded sandstone escarpment with views across Cheshire, Alderley Edge shares its name with the neighbouring village whose sought-after streets have been home to top footballers including Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand.

Cheshire Police said a man was traced following the 2020 appeal to identify a naked jogger and 'spoken to by officers'.

It's believed no further action was taken.

The force said it had not received any reports about the incident in Alderley Edge last night.
